Optima Chartering ( the company’s maiden name ) was incorporated in 1981 by Mr. Antony Roussos and Mr. Costas Dinopoulos and since the first day of its establishment has gradually grown into one of the largest chartering companies in the Piraeus market, compiled by a team of dry cargo chartering brokers, sale and purchase brokers, tanker chartering brokers as well as shipyards agency for ship repairs, conversions and provision technical services and a sizeable backup team dealing with post-fixing, accounting and administration, totally around 200 persons.
With the incorporation of the sale and purchase department which was established in 1996, the company expanded its activities in a developing market with a view of providing a more complete service to its customers. In this respect Optima Shipbrokers was created in order to reflect the wider scope of activities which the company is now involved in.
Optima Shipbrokers Ltd is the Pioneer within the Greek shipbroking houses since we were the 1st to establish offices in China and again we are now the first to establish shipbroking house in Dubai.
Since 1st of January 2005, we have established our Asia Representative Office. Optima Asia is manned by highly qualified personnel (Chinese as well as Greeks) and is equipped with the latest communication and information technology. Optima Shanghai is also panel member of China Newbuilding Price Index (CNPI).
One more milestone in the history of our company was Optima’s official physical presence in the Middle East, which commenced on the 1st of January 2007 in the heart of Dubai business district.
DRY CARGO CHARTERING
Since its creation, Optima has acted as chartering brokers for a variety of principals (Charterers, Owners, Operators) who have throughout the years strengthened our standing in both the Greek and international shipping markets and have boosted the company to a high level of acknowledgement from a multitude of clients around the world.
Optima’s commitment in always providing the highest level of service to its clients, aided by the company’s resources in highly qualified personnel and information technology, has been the stepping stone of the company’s rise into one of the leading chartering companies in the world.
TANKER CHARTERING
After many successful years in the International Markets of Dry cargo Chartering and Sale and Purchase as well as strong suggestion of our clients involved in oil trading, the company has decided within September 2005 the formation of a Tanker Chartering department.
The main activity of this department is chartering of clean and dirty tankers of all size trading worldwide.
Additionally the creation of this department will enable the company to extend its services to clients by combining purchase deals and employment for tankers.
The department is equipped with the latest communication and information technology and run by a team of young but experienced brokers in Athens and Shanghai.
NEW BUILDING,PROJECT,SECOND HAND,DEMOLITION
Our sizeable second hand ship sales team of experienced shipbrokers is dealing with the majority of types and sizes of vessels including bulk carriers, tankers, container vessels and multipurpose ships.The close liaison with our dry cargo chartering department is giving us the ability to develop second hand projects , combined with period or short term employment to major charterers and we are very proud to say that Optima is one of the very few Greek Shipbroking firms that can offer such services.
In addittion to the second hand Sale & Purchase, the sale of ships for demolition is one of the departments’ core activities. We enjoy enormous support from shipowners and A1 cash buyers all over the world (especially China/India/Bangladesh/Pakistan/Turkey) and we are proud to state that more than 700 ships have been sold for scrap through our sole intermediary until now.
Also, Optima Shipbrokers have the honour of being a panelist to the Baltic Exchange new Demo-Index.
REPAIRS
Optima Repairs, incorporated as department within OPTIMA SHIPBROKERS, is activated mainly as a Broker for Ship’s repairs, conversions and technical services. Our Strong presence in China, with Optima Asia established in Shanghai in 2005, enhances our operations with prompt and accurate information of the ship-repair Industry in China and enables us to have direct contacts with all the major Chinese Shipyards. During the last years and through several projects which have been taken place, a relation of trust has been established between our company and local companies, such as shipyards etc, giving us the opportunity to assist our clients in the best effective way. Our experienced technical personnel, based in Greece, working in close cooperation with our Shanghai office based personnel, are capable of handling complex ship-repair and conversion projects on a turn-key basis, offering our Clients a comprehensive range of services.
